What I Read in July

One thing I love about Instagram is the little corner called Bookstagram. I follow so many book lovers who introduce me to countless titles I may have never known about.

And oh how they read. So many books each month, you wouldn’t believe. So when I sat down to write this post about what I read in July (four books), I was feeling a little like it wasn’t good enough. I mean these boostagrammers read so much more.

But then I remembered how much I read a year ago. Probably one book a month. Maybe. I’ve come so far. And for me, four books in a month is a great amount. It feels like a big accomplishment without too much pressure. I can mostly read on the weekend, with a little more during the week.

July was a good reading month, starting with one of the best books I’ve read this year, followed by some serious beach reads, which don’t always tend to be my favorite. So without further ado, here are my July reads (as an Amazon Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases):

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett (5/5) — I’m guessing this will rank as one of the best books of the year. It was a fascinating look two sister’s struggles with racial identity and motherhood.

Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner (4/5) — I get so many questions about great beach reads and this would be one of my top picks. If you’re going to read one fun, light book this summer, this is it! In this book, a plus-size influencer tries to solve a murder mystery, with a ton of entertaining twists along the way.

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes (3/5) — Two adults starting over in their lives find comfort in each others’ company. While the storyline is great in concept, I didn’t think quite enough happened to move it along.

Happy & You Know It by Laura Hankin (4/5) — This was another fun, light read. While I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favorite books, I gave it a 4/5 because it was exactly what I love from a summer read — good character development, a fun setting and a few plot twists.

Did you read any great books in July? What’s on your August reading list?

Do you have a reading goal for 2022? The past two Do you have a reading goal for 2022? The past two years I’ve read about a book a week, hitting 52 books in 2020 and even more this year. I can happily say this goal is no longer a tough one for me, but a new habit and hobby that bring so much joy to my life. Part of that is this community, so thank you all! I’ll continue reading (and posting about it) just as much next year, but I’ll be focused less on quantity and more on quality. I’m excited to see where another year of reading takes me.

I’d love to hear what your plans for reading are in 2022! And watch for a post on my favorite books of 2021 coming soon!
