When I sat down to make our winter bucket list (a short list I keep in my Simplified Planner), I thought it would be really hard considering the pandemic and inability to do so many of the things we typically do.
But when I started writing, I saw that the things that make winter special often include outdoor activities, lots of snow and family time at home. With a little creativity, we can make so many memories this winter.
I make seasonal bucket lists because each season comes with holidays, traditions, events and activities and it’s so easy to let the time breeze by without experiencing all the things that can make for some of the best memories. A list helps me think about what we want to do and intentionally plan and schedule those things.
Here’s what’s on our winter bucket list, one that’s just a little different this year to stay safe during the pandemic:
1. Ski Days
We’ve made a big effort to make the girls comfortable skiing since they were young with lots of lessons and winter ski passes. While their dance schedules have made us ski slightly less the past couple of winters, we’re back on this winter. Because skiing is such a great way to spend time together and see others outdoors without worrying much about COVID. We’re already gone once this year, and it was incredible to feel like life was normal for a few hours.
To make skiing easier each winter, we buy our skis. We swear by this site to buy the girls high quality skis with adjustable boots for a great price.
2. Ice Skating
Ok this one might be more for the rest of the family than myself, but it still counts. Our town has a new ice skating rink and it’s been the best thing this winter. The girls got new skates and have quickly taught themselves to skate. They meet up with friends or sometimes Chris joins them. This new rink has brought the community together and has created some amazing new memories for my girls!
3. Fire Pit Gatherings
We’re thankful to see our friends this winter bundled around the fire pit. Continuing this new way of socializing is something we’re looking forward to. I never thought this would work, but when you put on an extra layer, grab a hot cocoa and get a good fire going, it’s a ton of fun for everyone! So many of our friends have this fire pit — it’s definitely on my list!
4. Game Nights
We love our game nights, especially since our quarantine. I’m hoping we have a lot of family game nights this winter (what else is there to do anyway?). Our go-to games are Monopoly and Scrabble, but we recently got Catan and Ticket to Ride, so as soon as we learn how to play those, it’s game on!
5. Baking
I don’t consider myself a baker, but with a little less on the schedule this winter, I’m thinking we have a little more time to bake — and it’s something my girls love doing. I’m looking at some Half Baked Harvest recipes to make over the next few months, including this and this.
What family activities are you looking forward to this winter?
