I get a lot of questions about how I read as much as I do with working full time and kids. After a year of reading a book a week, I’ve learned different ways to fit in more reading — even when I’m really busy. Here’s a little about my reading routine…
1. I Schedule Time to Read on Weekends
Now that my kids are a little older, I think of weekend mornings as leisurely time that I can read to relax after a long work week. I love waking up on Saturday mornings and giving myself a couple of hours to dive into a book and drink coffee. What I find is that if the book is good, I keep reading the rest of the weekend and into the next week until I’m done with the book.
2. I Listen to Books While Doing Other Things
Whether it’s grocery shopping, cooking, driving, folding laundry, taking a walk, or working on the blog, I’m often multitasking, listening to a book while I’m doing something else. While I’d prefer to read a paper book, I always have one going on Audible too. It’s amazing how many activities you can do while reading.
3. I Set Book Goals and Share Them with Others
In 2020, I set an aggressive book goal (aggressive for me at least!) to read 52 book that year. By setting a goal, I was so motivated to read. But just having the goal likely wouldn’t have made me read 52 books. It was sharing it with this community on Instagram, and tracking my reading there in Stories and on Goodreads that kept me going.
For these reasons, I’ve been able to create solid reading habits and read so many amazing books. What are other ways you’ve been able to read more?
